Employers: Business helpdesk goes live

A new helpdesk service for our business customers launches today, Monday 1 July 2013.

The business helpdesk has been set up in response to customer feedback and will offer a single point of contact for queries about becoming a sponsor or hiring people from outside the EEA.

Following a successful pilot, the new service is now available to all sponsors, businesses and Tier 1 investors.

Applicants: Fee for EEA documentation applications

30 June 2013

Following Parliamentary approval, there will be a fee charged for the following types of EEA documentation applications made from within the UK from 1 July 2013.

  • EEA1
  • EEA2
  • EEA3
  • EEA4
  • DRF1

Bulgaria and Romania

  • BR1- Application for a blue or yellow registration certificate
  • BR5-Application for a residence card
  • BR6-Application for a family member residence stamp


Employers: Croatia becomes a member of the EU

Croatian nationals can enter and live in the UK without permission under our immigration rules. However, they will need permission to work in the UK unless they are exempt.

Students wanting to study in the UK do not need to be sponsored under Tier 4, but if they want or need to work, they must obtain an accession worker authorisation document unless they are exempt.

A Croatian national working without permission is committing a criminal offence under the Accession of Croatia (Immigration and Worker Authorisation) Regulations 2013....

Employers: Sponsor IT upgrade

A new version of the sponsor management system (SMS) launches today, 1 July 2013, as part of a planned upgrade to the points-based system IT applications.

Along with more effective communications the changes will mean better support for users, making applications quicker and easier with fewer rejected requests.

Key features include a message screen presented to Level 1 users immediately after logging in, providing key dates and events and answers to common SMS user issues.

Updated: Updated document for use on or after 12 November 2015.

This is part of the bulk data transfer toolkit for licensed sponsors that are using the sponsorship management system (SMS).

It contains answers to technical questions about bulk data transfer, a method of sending information directly from a licensed sponsor’s IT system to the SMS.
